William Missouri Downs, also known as Bill Downs, originally from Bay City, Michigan, is an American playwright, director and author.

Downs earned his Bachelor's degree at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, his MFA in acting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his second MFA in screenwriting at UCLA. He is a professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Wyoming.[1]

He wrote for several NBC sitcoms including MY TWO DADS, AMEN and THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR. He is the author of twenty plays that have had well over one hundred productions, including: The Kennedy Center, The Detroit Rep, The Wisdom Bridge Theatre, New York City Fringe Festival, The International Theatre Festival in Israel, Orlando Shakespeare Festival, The Durban Performing Arts Center (South Africa), Performance Network, The Berkeley Rep, The Stadt Theater Walfischgasse (Vienna) and The National New Play Network’s Showcase of New Plays.
